Love that Dirty Water

Calcutta, You're my home!

Two friends of mine, B... and Y..., recently had their parade rained on, literally, during a visit to Calcutta. Torrential rains made for such extreme flooding that the entire city was impassible. Even the highest ground was covered in knee-deep layers of filthy, fecal brown water!

Well, flooding's a pain in the neck, you may say, but is it a life-endangering natural disaster? Let's have a look:

[floaters!]

1) Water collects throughout the city

[one bigeyed bug!]

2) Mosquities breed in the dampness

[getting plugged full of holes!]

3) You get stung by mosquitoes.

[heavenward]

4) You contract malaria, and soon receive your eternal reward.

Is it India-specific? India isn't malaria's only national host, though it does suffer in greater proportion. Even "under control," malaria still manages to kill some 300,000 people annually, in various countries throughout the world (except, of course, the United States of America).

You don't need mosquitoes to kill you in India.
Sometimes, toxic American fatcats are enough.
