Thanksgiving Don'ts: Part 1

When you arrive at Thanksgiving, you'll have to join the relatives' conversations. Beyond basic catching up, it's always difficult to find anything to say to your family members. Keep conversations general. Don't discuss anything with family that you wouldn't bring up with other complete strangers.

Also, keep in mind that your family wants the same thing from conversation you do: something not very challenging. When joining the discussion, limit your input to received ideas and essential concepts:

[it's all the media's fault!]

Or...

[i'd kick mike tyson's ass!]

Or...

[let's talk issues!]

Above all, don't stir up trouble with your brute honesty. Nobody wants to hear it and they'll just ignore it anyway.

[we haven't told the truth for five minutes in this house!]

Go ahead for smoking etiquette.

Go back to the beginning.
